Kareem Watson
ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT
"I am an operational specialist who has worked with various nonprofits and social justice organizations over the years. One of my professional goals is to fill positions where I can support the expansion and autonomy of radical liberation-oriented individuals and institutions in the United States and abroad. I find that in this overall movement of liberation, my place is one of servitude and building. I gain political and cultural inspiration from revolutionary histories, particularly the often-untold stories of freedom fighters, abolitionists, and scholars who lived their radical existence as neighbors, loved ones, and dear friends. As the Administrative Assistant for Aurora Commons, I utlize my organizational expertise to help bolster & streamline Aurora Common's coalition-building, community-organizing, and power-building efforts.
I also joined the Aurora Commons group as a learner. Much of my political radicalism has been gained from studying Black scholarship. I have read and analyzed texts from Black Queer Feminists, U.S. Black freedom fighters, and Pan-African scholars studying resistance globally. He hopes to weave the - at times, polarizing and siloed - conversations of Blackness, Black "Life," and Black liberation within the interconnected vision of global liberation. The liberation of Queer Black Femme populations often intertwines with the various human & non-human restorative practices and ideologies that Aurora Commons embodies. I look forward to my personal growth with this wonderful organization."
